Now lets get into the subject, when you jump, you are generating force from your legs and when you propel yourself with your legs, it is all a matter of how explosive your legs are, so it is important that you work on explosive exercises. So would it seem better if you were to workout and do an exercise that works on both legs at the same time, or just work on one leg at a time? For instance, what if you were going to jump with one leg? Then you would jump higher if you did exercises with one leg, this is the same priniciple applied.

The one leg step up is a great exercise for building strength and power on one leg. You hold weights on both hands and then you stand in front of a platform, then in standing position, you take one big step and then step on the platform with one leg and then bring yourself up. This is exactly the same thing as walking upstairs but in this case, the stairs would be 2 feet high. You want to make sure that you do not lose balance when your stepping to the platform. Once you are on the platform, take a step back down to the ground and then repeat. You can alternate legs and you can also do this in an explosive approach. The way you would do this explosively is by doing the step ups in a fast motion with your legs generating power fast.

Now another exercise that you can do to increase your vertical is with box jumps. Box jumps are plymotric exercises, which means that they are specifically done to make you explosive. The way you do the box jumps is by having your feet fully comfortable and have 3 platforms in a straight line about 2 feet apart from each other. These boxes can be 2 or 3 feet high in height, now what you is take a high leap on the first box and then once you are on the box, you gently jump down and then repeat with the other two boxes. The box jump exercise is a great exercise not just to make you more explosive, but also to make you more agile and also increases your vertical. What other workout can do this?
